ACAD's Board of Governors represent a variety of influential and experienced voices from the communities of business, art, design, and public engagement. These voices come together as the Board of Governors to guide and lead ACAD as the College grows and transforms.
Working with the president, academic and administrative officers, and ACAD's Academic Council, the Board of Governors is ACAD's governing board, holding fiduciary and overall responsibility for the welfare of the Institute. ACAD's Board consists of members from the external community, including individuals appointed by the Alberta government and by the Board itself. There are also two internal Board members drawn from the ACAD community, elected by faculty and staff, as well as a student representative (traditionally the sitting President of the Alberta College of Art + Design Student's Union). ACAD's President, Dr. Daniel Doz, is also a member of the Board of Governors. ACAD's Board of Governors also works closely with Academic Council, ACAD's highest academic decision making body.
The primary responsibilities of the Board of Governors are to advance ACAD’s mission, to provide organizational oversight and to set policy and institutional priorities for the College. At each meeting, ACAD's Board of Governors makes major operating decisions and receives reports from the President's cabinet (Senior Vice President Finance and Corporate Services, Vice President Advancement, Vice President Research and Academic Affairs, Vice President STudent Experience and Admissions, Director of Communications and the Director of Human Resources), from the Chairs of Board Committees (Human Resources, Governance, Finance and Development), and from Faculty, Student and Staf representatives to the Board. In addition to standing committees of the Board, ad hoc committees may be appointed as required to focus on specific Board tasks.
ACAD's Board of Governors welcomes members of ACAD's community to all public Board meetings, and is committed to a transparent and inclusive governance process. Meetings are open to all, and minutes of each Board meeting are published digitally each month.
Each year the Alberta College of Art + Design is pleased to present the Board of Governors Alumni Award to Excellence to a distinguished ACAD Alumni at the ACAD Convocation Ceremony. Past recipients of the Board of Governors Alumni Award of Excellence have included members of the international art and design community, all of whom have made a significant contribution to the arts community and has demonstrated excellence in their field of practice.
ACAD's Board of Governors is made up of creative, passionate leaders from diverse sectors of our community. Membership is held on a rotating basis, and ACAD Board members are actively engaged in every level of the College.
ACAD's Board of Governors meets on a monthly basis throughout the academic year. Meetings are public (with the exception of in camera sessions), and members of ACAD's community are invited to attend.
