Our ACAD vision statement states that we have committed to “unconditional excellence in our programs, practices and policies in a laboratory environment that is committed to unconstrained inquiry and collegiality”. This is a fresh and central idea for us; it means that we take nothing for granted in the pursuit of quality, that we are willing to take wise risks, and that we will support our students in the absolute quest of their creative and scholarly practice. Schools are characterized by certain ways of doing things, particular sorts of relationships, and established methods; laboratories are places of conversations among collaborators, exploration, questions and discoveries that are both surprises as well as sought after. At ACAD, we want to ask passionate questions, suggest explanations, and act to create a place that is vibrant, inventive, and that provokes cultural progress.
As a parent or family member of a student applying to ACAD, you will no doubt have many questions about what you should expect through this process. Our Admissions and Student Experience team members are dedicated to ensuring that you have all the information you need; please make sure to visit us online, at our Open Houses and Portfolio Day events, or visit us on Facebook or Twitter to learn more about the experiences students will have at our College. Family members are crucial to the success of our students, and we look forward to helping with this transition.
Starting the first year at university is a major step in a student’s journey to adulthood. To help ease this transition for both parents and students, there are a number of things that should be considered and planned for before the start of classes. It begins with a dialogue – and we’ve got a list of important topics to cover before the studio doors open for the first time.
Your student’s first year at university may require a huge adjustment as they navigate through a new academic and social environment. ACAD’s Student Resource Center offers an array of services that support students during this time.
