Galleries

Art is everywhere at ACAD. Exhibitions take place throughout the building: in studios, project rooms, major-specific gallery sites, and the College’s two publicly accessible galleries.

With eight different student run independent exhibition spaces including the Cahoots Gallery, the Polly & Esther Gallery, the 378.5 Gallery, the Ivan Gallery, the Print Gallery, and the Upper and Lower EP Kase Galleries, ACAD students have an opportunity to share their work and to begin their practice as professional artists and designers from their first day of classes.

Our campus is also home to two professional gallery spaces – The Marion Nicoll Gallery (MNG) and the Illingworth kerr Gallery (IKG). The student-run Marion Nicoll Gallery showcases only student work, and is curated and managed each year by ACAD students.  This professional gallery space has been home to some of Canada’s most exciting artists, and opening receptions for shows at the MNG are among ACAD’s most unique public events.

The Illingworth Kerr Gallery is a nationally recognized exhibition space and cultural institution, and each year it opens its doors to shows by international artists and designers. Work shown first at the IKG has gone on to the Venice Biennale and the MOMA in New York – with such an internationally renowned gallery right on campus ACAD students are at the front of the line to see some of the most exciting art in the world.

Illingworth Kerr Gallery – bringing the world to ACAD

ACAD’s IKG has managed a public exhibition program of contemporary visual art for nearly 50 years, the longest running international art program in Calgary. In that time, the Illingworth Kerr Gallery has brought some of the most exciting voices in contemporary art and design to Calgary, and to our student’s front door.

Student Run galleries on campus

ACAD students are taking over the campus, and our student run gallery spaces get better and better each year. With eight different student-run galleries on campus and a professional gallery dedicated to showcasing and supporting student art and design, our campus is alive year-round with innovative, creative and unique student work. Where can you go on campus to see student work in action?
