The ACAD New Student Experience

Becoming an ACAD student is about more than just attending classes and spending time with faculty in the studio: for many it is also the first time to live in Calgary, or even in Canada. Going away to college is exciting, but we know that you may also feel a little anxious about leaving your family, friends and the comfort of familiar surroundings and practices. We’re ready to support you as you move to Calgary for the first time with information about our city, links to events, housing information, and contacts for getting set up as a new Calgarian. We have also developed an  international students’ guide to help you prepare for your arrival in Calgary and to introduce you to our city and our college. Once you have arrived, we will be here to offer support and assistance to ensure a smooth and successful transition into your new environment and college life.

ACAD attracts visually talented art and design applicants from across Canada and around the world. Whether you’re from the local area, or traveling to ACAD from a great distance, you’ll find a global perspective and an invigorating mix of people and ideas.

Our Student Resource Centre is your first stop for getting situated as a new student, and we’re ready to help answer any of your questions. The SRC provides assistance to all new students on a variety of matters, including:

  • Pre-arrival information
    housing assistance
  • Medical insurance information
  • Social opportunities and excursions
  • Advice on Canadian Immigration regulations
  • Pre-departure assistance

What’s Calgary like?

ACAD is located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada’s most innovative and energetic city. Only in Calgary can you visit a world-class art gallery in the morning, and ski or snowboard in the Rocky Mountains in the afternoon. But where will you live? And how will you get around? We’ve got the answers to these questions and more.
