Join Us As We Miraculously Bring the Night to Life!
Calgary’s Inaugural Nuit Blanche

The first annual Nuit Blanche Calgary launches on September 15, 2012 with five amazing time-based performance art events at Olympic Plaza in downtown Calgary – and you’re invited! Events are free to the public, and running from 7:00PM until 3:00AM.

Nuit Blanche has come to signify a late-night international contemporary arts festival appealing to adventurous audiences.  Held worldwide since 1997 in Toronto, Paris, Halifax and other cities, all-night festivals literally transform urban spaces into full-scale civic art galleries.  The Nuit Blanche Calgary performances are inclusive, playful and engineered to delight family and friends.  Nothing replaces the experience of live art!

The most surprising performance artists working today are at Nuit Blanche Calgary on September 15th.  The renowned Quebec artist trio, BGL premiere a very humorous free ride carrousel propelled by parkour athletes; Caitlind Brown presents a hypnotic CLOUD comprised of 5000 light bulbs; Emily Promise Allison will touch you emotionally and physically with her 8-hour long performance of blind dance, hope and redemption; Theo Sims gives you a live Irish pub ‘sculpture’, The Candahar, notoriously animated by Belfast’s most handsome bartenders, Chris and Conor Roddy; and… don’t miss the Calgary artist collective Sophie Farewell as they direct their amazing town criers to take your personal news viral!!  Nuit Blanche Calgary presents performance art as a guaranteed catalyst for late night conversation, debate and dialogue in downtown Calgary and adds a Village beer tent, the most excellent fine food trucks in Calgary and more.

Nuit Blanche Calgary also invites the late night participation of independent, parallel art events including Derek Besant at the Museum of Contemporary Art Calgary (at City Hall), TRUCK Gallery’s Bike-In film projection from a mobile Camper at City Hall as well as extended exhibition hours at their main gallery space, nearby Stride Gallery presents new work by Suzen Green and Bill Morton and The New Gallery present Talisman by Jay Mosher & Rory Middleton.  Check gallery listings for hours and program details.

Nuit Blanche Calgary Society was founded as a non-profit cultural organization in 2010 and is generously supported by our producing partners, the Alberta College of Art + Design and the City of Calgary – Recreation and Public Art.  Additional support is gratefully provided by EDCO Financial Holdings Inc., Calgary2012, Calgary Arts Development Authority, Tourism Calgary, Tooth Blackner, AECOM Engineering, Village Brewery, Corus Entertainment, Jake Lim Design, West Canadian, our many Nuit Blanche Calgary volunteers and anonymous donors.
