We visually perceive two dimensions: with or without our other senses, we must infer the third or fourth. All visual input is played out on the flatscreens at the back of our eyeballs; we know this as an anatomical fact, yet are so comfortable in our three dimensional environment, we are barely aware of the accretion of these 2D inputs and the incongruity between the dimensions we can sense and the universe we can infer.

Flatland is a loosely patterned and thoroughly abstracted tour through the environment of our daily lives. It examines what the natural forces that we take for granted everyday might look like when a two dimensional plane is sliced through our space-time.

Sharon Hogg is a Calgary based painter. After 30 years spent in the landscapes of Canada's resource industries, the modern wilderness, she is now earning a BFA in painting from Alberta College of Art+ Design.
