President's Cabinet

The ACAD President’s Cabinet is the strategic leadership body of the Alberta College of Art + Design advising the President + CEO on all issues related to delivering academic excellence.

Cabinet is a standing committee responsible to the President, composed of Vice Presidents and Directors who have full budget authority for their respective programs and departments and who have significant leadership and planning responsibilities. Cabinet works within the context of ACAD’s mandate to advance all priority directions with respect to business related matters and the academic experience at the college.

Jill Brown, Vice President | Administration

Jill Brown was appointed as Director, Human Resources in August 2014, and provides leadership to the College community with respect to the strategic direction and the overall management of Human Resources policies, programs and services.

Jill has a varied career in higher education, both domestically and internationally. She has worked for the University of Calgary, and was the Director of Human Resources during the start-up phase of the University of Calgary’s Doha Nursing Program in Qatar. Jill’s professional experience includes leading teams and projects in the areas of organizational planning and development, training, performance management, compensation, policy development, employee and labour relations, and HRIS and payroll. 

She obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Management from the University of Lethbridge with a concentration in Human Resource Management and Industrial Relations, and holds her Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation.

Richard Brown, Director | Research + Graduate Studies

Richard Brown joined ACAD's faculty in 2002 and has served as the Chair of the School of Visual Art, Head of Drawing, and Head of First-Year Studies. He holds an MFA from Hunter College, City Universities of New York, and a BFA Honours from the University of Manitoba School of Art. Richard maintains an active studio practice with solo exhibitions at Stride Gallery and ACAD's Illingworth Kerr Gallery and the Winnipeg Art Gallery among many others.

Nicole Hamilton, Executive Director | Continuing Education
+ Professional Development

Nicole Hamilton has almost 20 years’ of experience in higher education and has held a variety of roles as a senior administrator working to direct strategic growth and position institutions for national and international recognition.  In her most recent appointment as the National Vice President of Education, with the Canadian Institute of Management, Nicole worked with businesses and post-secondary institutions from across the country and most recently directed the development of a groundbreaking partnership to fortify the sustainability of the institute.  Nicole has several years’ experience in practical and applied learning environments and entrepreneurial education.     She has been successful in evaluating market competitiveness and responding with innovative programs and services designed to enhance the student experience, and provide educational pathways that fortify both the personal and professional interests’ of the students.  

 
Nicole has a Bachelors’ of Arts, a Masters’ in Business and a Master’s in Education with a specialization in Adult Education.  Nicole has a personal interest in art which comes from the advocacy that she has provided to burgeoning artists.  Nicole is also inspired by the wide range of opportunities that is currently available within the field of creative art and design and wants to bring new learning opportunities to ACAD, for a diverse range of student audiences.

Jamie Leong-Huxley, Interim Vice President | Advancement

Jamie brings a very impressive wealth of experience and skills. Among many activities, she has been working for the past three years as a Special Projects Manager with Zinc Ventures on the creation of a new regional innovation centre whose purpose is to advance Calgary in the digital age and build a better ecosystem for innovation (opening planned for 2020).

She holds an MBA from Queen’s University, a Certificate in Gerontology and a Diploma in Public Relations, both from Mount Royal University. She is a member and Fellow of the Canadian Public Relations Society. In addition, she is a member of the Board of Directors of the Alberta Foundation for the Arts (AFA), sits on a grant committee of Calgary Arts Development CADA), and was on the founding board of the National Music Centre.

Dr Alex Link | Associate Vice President Academic Affairs + Chair, School of Critical
+ Creative Studies

Alex Link has diverse areas of interest with a current primary focus on the analysis and history of comics and graphic novels. He has also co-authored several titles for Image Comics. Alex also researches popular genre literature such as science fiction, detective fiction, and the gothic, with a particular emphasis on theories of spatiality. Additional interests include American prose fiction of any era and the British eighteenth century.

Dr. André Plante, Vice President | Academic Affairs + Provost

Dr. Plante arrives to ACAD after serving as Associate Vice President, Corporate Planning, Facilities and Sustainability at Sheridan College in Ontario. Over the last seven years, he worked to create a stewardship approach to Academic Resources and Learning Spaces in order to align the college needs with the strategic plan and better control the institution’s fast-growing footprint. Previously, as Dean of Academic Planning and Development, he lead a cross-disciplinary team involved in Curriculum and Faculty Development, Quality Assurance, Learning Technologies, Policies, Strategic Planning and Institutional Research.
