The Alberta Library Card (TAL) + Interlibrary Loan (ILL)

Borrow library resources from 49 member libraries across Alberta through The Alberta Library (TAL) or beyond through interlibrary loan.

The Alberta Library Card (TAL)

ACAD is a member of The Alberta Library (TAL), which supports the information needs of all Albertans through resource sharing and borrowing between member libraries.

ACAD students, faculty and staff may request TAL cards to borrow from other TAL member libraries. Each participating library has its own lending policies.

Non-ACAD community members may borrow from the Luke Lindoe Library using TAL cards acquired from their own home library (ex. public library/home school library). When using the TAL card at the Luke Lindoe Library, up to 5 items at one time may be borrowed for a 3 week loan period with no renewals.

Interlibrary Loans (ILL)

If you are not an ACAD student, faculty or staff member and would like to borrow items from the Luke Lindoe Library, please send full details of your request to or call 403.284.7667.

Interlibrary Loans for ACAD students, faculty and staff

The ACAD library is a rich studio and academic resource, with a focus on modern and contemporary art, design, and theory. If you require an item that is currently unavailable in our collection, we suggest you investigate TAL Online as your first step.

If the item you are interested in is available at a library within the city of Calgary, please use your TAL card to obtain it in person.

For items outside of Calgary, but within Alberta:

  1. Request the item your request through TAL online
  2. Choose Alberta College of Art and Design as your pick- up library
  3. Enter your ACAD Library User ID in the BARCODE field.
  4. You will receive an email shortly thereafter confirming your request.

For any requests not covered by TAL Online, including copies of articles not found in our databases, please submit full details of your request to, and we will do our best to accommodate your request. Please be aware that there is a time factor in obtaining interlibrary loans.

Note: Physical items that are requested and not picked up may be subject to a $5.00 charge. Items from other libraries must be returned to the front desk - not in any of our return bins. Items that are not returned by the due date will be subject to a $1.00 daily fine, up to $15.00, at which time the item will be declared lost and the borrower will be billed for fines, the cost of the lost item, and service fees.
