There are numerous funding and grant opportunities for a wide range of arts-related research projects.

Government of Canada - Canadian Heritage Funding Programs - a comprehensive and broad spectrum list of funding agencies across the nation

The Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council Talent program - supports students and postdoctoral fellows in order to develop the next generation of researchers and leaders across society, both within academia and across the public, private and not-for-profit sectors

Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada

Mitacs - a national, not-for-profit organization that has designed and delivered research and training programs in Canada for 15 years, works with 60 universities, thousands of companies, and both federal and provincial governments, the organization builds partnerships that support industrial and social innovation in Canada

Heritage Canada - general funding for arts, culture, heritage and community

Canada Council for the Arts - this program addresses sector-wide and discipline-specific gaps in the Canadian arts ecology by supporting vital, developmental activities that nurture, benefit and raise the profile of Aboriginal, culturally diverse, deaf, disability and official language minority arts communities

Canada Council for the Arts multi-year grants - these grants assist professional Canadian incorporated non-profit arts organizations with a mandate inclusive of inter-arts work to enable them to research, create, produce, present inter-arts works and/or provide professional services on occasions of strategic importance to the artistic and organizational development of the inter-arts community in Canada.

Calgary Arts Development - the Special Circumstance Program offers assistance for a special circumstance that cannot be addressed by other Calgary Arts Development programs by providing resources and/or investments for a specific, limited time period and/or purpose. Assistance through the program could be in the form of a grant, loan, expertise, investigation or other types of support necessitated by the conditions brought forward in the application.

Alberta Foundation for the Arts - the Arts Organization Operational Grant program supports the annual operating expenses of some of Alberta’s arts organizations and companies, including theatre and performing arts organizations, public art galleries and community arts organizations
