Future Memories: Present Tense

In the exploration of cultural identity, ownership, belonging + representation

IKG and ACAD’s artist-in-residence program are inviting artists to apply for a 3-4 week residency at the College to coincide with and complement our forthcoming exhibition entitled Future Memories: Present Tense. The exhibition will be presented at our galleries between 4 October and 2 December 2017. The exhibition looks broadly at themes such as story-telling, (un)doing future narratives, museum and academic label-making, (de)construction of individual and collective identities, self-determination and representation, surfacing over-written histories. This residency will provide an opportunity for an artist to connect with our amazing faculty and work alongside the IKG’s team while advancing and sharing their research and practice in the field of contemporary art.

Applications are sought from mid-career and established artists with an interest in the themes highlighted above, wanting to undertake advanced research and develop work within the framework of the Future Memories: Present Tense exhibition. To be considered for the program, applicants are expected to have developed a solid body of work, achieved recognition for their work and have a substantial exhibition history. Teaching, academic and/or instructor experience is highly desirable. The selected applicant will receive an honorarium and accommodation subsidy, private studio space, access to the College’s resources and facilities, production support, small production budget and onsite exhibition. In compensation a resident is responsible for providing two full-day workshop oriented toward students, contribute or take part in the public program accompanying the exhibition (an artist talk, in-conversation, performance, action, etc.), and present a new work at ACAD.

We welcome Future Memories:Present Tense exhibitors as well as all international and Canadian applicants who match the pre-requisite to apply.
