Richard’s paintings were large expressive canvasses and his work forms part of public and private collections in Canada and the USA. Born in Vancouver, Richard received his early training at the Vancouver School of Art (Emily Carr College of Art) with Jack Shadbolt, Roy Kiyooka, Ron Thom, and Peter Aspell. Known as a demanding, passionate teacher, and a master at his craft who always left an impression, Richard taught generations of creators in Brandon, The Montreal Museum School (Dean), and the Alberta College of Art + Design in Calgary (Instructor and Head), transferring his dedication and knowledge to students, many of whom had successful art careers due to his influence. Richard was devoted to many forms of art, acting on stage and in films, creating films, taking pictures, listening to good music and appreciating good dramatic television.
