Carolyn C. Qualle
Craft + Emerging Media
“Paper has helped shape the world since its inception over two thousand years ago. As a bookartist and printmaker I have an intimate relationship with paper; its colour, texture and sculptural adaptability which provide endless possibility for containing narrative. ”
Carolyn C. Qualle lives and works in Calgary, Alberta. Her work has been exhibited in Canada, United States, England, Australia, Japan and Korea. She has taught bookarts, papermaking and print workshops for over twenty years in North America for institutions such as The Center for the Book in New York City, the Japanese Paper Place in Toronto Canada and most recently The Esker Foundation in Calgary Alberta.
Her work explores the Artist Book. She seeks to balance text and image, structure and material. Her teaching facilitates the development and linking of papermaking and fibre practice with her student's own personal explorations.
