“Knowing is not enough; we must apply. Willing is not enough; we must do. - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe ”
Born in Szekszard, Hungary, Tivadar Bote is a professional, practicing illustrator / logo designer and educator living in Calgary. He has created award winning logos and illustrative works for a remarkable list of clients, including Nike, Royal Canadian Mint, Getty Images, Leo Burnett Worldwide and Ogilvy and Mater in New York.
His work is based on a strong European tradition of German and Austrian trademark design, composed of bold geometric forms coupled with a whimsical, playful element underlining his work. This design esthetic is also strongly influenced and adapted from early woodblock printing in Japan, moku hanga which is a technique best known for its use in the ukiyo-e artistic genre.
Tivadar Bote’s Gold and Silver coin design series, “Untamed Canada” a commissioned project for the Royal Canadian Mint in Ottawa was based on this design sensibility.
Aside from his interest in design, Tivadar has also been an abstract painter since his time at the University of Calgary and has had a gallery representative , Herringer Kiss Gallery showcasing his work of large, abstract works on canvas here in Calgary for over 6 years as well as a gallery representative in Edmonton.
Currently, Tivadar has abstract paintings represented by the architectural firm Robert Pashuk Architecture Inc., in Calgary as well as actively seeking representation with a high profile gallery, Kalman Maklary Fine Arts in Budapest, Hungary.
