Film Screening: The River by Jean Renoir
WHEN: Saturday, January 31 at 2:30 p.m.
WHERE: Stanford Perrott Lecture Theatre, Alberta College of Art + Design
Exquisitely shot in luminous Technicolour The River is a visual tour de force and a glorious, meditative tribute to the sights and sounds of Indian culture. It became the first Technicolor film made in India as well as first color film for director Jean Renoir, son of the impressionist painter Pierre-Auguste Renoir.
The film is an autobiographical memoir by Rumer Godden. It eloquently contrasts the growing pains of three young women with the immutability of the sacred river. Renoir gracefully captures the energy and rhythm of life on the river.
