How to apply to the MFA

Welcome to the first step in your journey to becoming an MFA candidate at ACAD. The MFA Program accepts applications on a rolling basis, for a fall semester start. You will find everything you need to complete your application here.

Apply online through Apply Alberta by January 15 Request your official transcripts, submit your statement of intent, cv, and if applicable your english proficiency documents (by Jan 15) Request your letters of recommendation (must be in by Jan 15) Submit portfolio by February 1

Step 1: Application and fee

Apply online and pay your $110 application fee via Apply Alberta.

Application deadline: January 15.  The following documents must be received by this date: official transcripts, reference forms, statement of intent, CV, and if applicable, English Proficiency (TOEFL or IELTS) - please submit your statement of intent, referee forms and CV through slideroom.

Note: The application for the MFA Program opens in June, with the application and portfolio evaluation taking place after February 1, all complete applications that meet the minimum requirement will be considered.  Program start is September of each year.

Step 2: Transcripts and English Proficiency Documents

Request your official transcripts at the start of your application process to avoid delays.  Transcripts must be received in a sealed envelope directly from the institution. If applicable, request an official english proficiency score to be sent to us directly from the institution.

Step 3: Reference Forms

Request your reference form as early as possible to allow your referees sufficient time to submit them (via slideroom).  It is the responsibility of the applicant and the referee to ensure that the referee form and letters are submitted by the application deadline date. 

Step 4: Portfolio

Submit a portfolio of your work via Slideroom.

Deadline: February 1 for your portfolio submission

MFA admission requirements

Admission to the ACAD graduate program is competitive and is based on academic standing, demonstration of an active studio practice and a commitment to take on a rigorous program of study.

MFA awards and scholarships

All MFA in Craft Media applicants will automatically be considered for entrance scholarships, based on the merit of their applications. You do not need to apply for these awards.
