ACAD Fourth-Year Cindy Skrukwa Runs for CFCU Board of Directors
Fourth-year painting major Cindy Skrukwa has put her name in to be on the board for one of Calgary's upstanding financial institutions and running for Connect First Credit Union's (CFCU) Board of Directors. CFCU is a not-for-profit financial institution with $5 billion in assets operating under the First Calgary, Legacy and Chinook credit union brands. She was endorsed by the CFCU nominating committee now is running for one-of-five board openings against 10 other candidates.
Cindy is back at ACAD after completing her first two years of her BFA in the 1980s. She then took her leave to earn a BCom at the Universtiy of Alberta and graduating as a Gold Medalist from the Ivey School of Business. After a long career as a marketer and business strategist, with stints in Toronto and New York, she put on business career on hold to complete her BFA at ACAD and immerse herself in creating art and learning from her instructors and fellow students.
Twenty years ago, Cindy wrote “She Laughed all The Way to the Bank,” as a labour of love, to inspire young women to make good financial decisions. She is a dedicated volunteer and has been a Big Sister, Boy Scouts treasurer, an organizer for many fundraisers, a board member for Peer Support Services for Abused Women and founder of a private refugee sponsorship group. She wants to be on the board to speak for creatives and young women who want to run their own business.
