ACAD proud to support month long #IBelieveYou public awareness campaign
The Alberta College of Art + Design is joining nearly a dozen other Alberta post-secondary communities to support survivors of sexual assault on September 22, 2015, and every day on our campus through #IBelieveYou a public awareness campaign designed to help us all better respond to survivors of sexual assault.
The campaign, funded by the Government of Alberta, is being led by the Association of Alberta Sexual Assault Services (AASAS) and is supported by community organizations throughout the province.
ACAD is inviting students to come together, get inspired, and create work together on a shared space in the Main Mall September 22, 2015 from 10:00am to 2:00pm.
A representative from Calgary Communities Against Sexual Assault or The Alberta Association of Sexual Assault Services will be present at a booth with information on support services for victims of sexual assault, #ibelieveyou temporary tattoos and stickers, and a photo booth where students are invited to take photos/selfies and post to social media.
ACAD’s Registered Psychologist and Counsellor, Jason Bauche, worked to bring the campaign to campus to raise awareness of this severely under-reported crime and will also be at the event to provide information about counselling services at ACAD.
A goal of this collaborated provincial campaign led by the AASAS is to educate the public on the power of a positive response as one of the simplest and most effective ways to encourage survivors to come forward.
Sexual assault is a severely under-reported crime—around 97% of assaults go unreported, which dramatically affects the safety and health of individuals, families, and whole communities.
