Alumni Awards March 31

If alumna Cassandra Paul could give her former ACAD-self advice, it would be “ embrace as many opportunities as possible and don’t lose touch with the people who inspire and challenge you.”  A graduate with a BFA (Distinction) 2010, Painting and Horizon Award recipient in 2015, Cassandra sees being an alumnae as being part of a larger community in Calgary that lasts long past you graduate.

“I have received so much support in my career, studio practice and other aspects of my life from peers, faculty and friendships that were developed during my time at ACAD.”

The 2016 ACAD Alumni Awards are just such an opportunity to connect and celebrate the diversity of community at a free event next Thursday, March 31 from 6:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. in the Stanford Perrott Lecture Theatre. An impressive list of 12 emerging and established alumni will talk about their paths since graduation and share advice about how they have shaped their careers and creative pursuits.

“Our graduates leave ACAD with the expertise to transform culture and industry, the ability to launch creative practices and small businesses, and the drive to apply their craft wherever they are in adaptable and innovative ways”, comments Dr. Daniel Doz, President + CEO.

“Reflecting on the past year, our alumni on the whole have received some noteworthy accolades, including Zahra Al-Harazi, named a UNICEF ambassador, Peter von Tiesenhausen, who received the Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Distinguished Artist Award and powerhouse Katie Ohe who is one step closer to opening the Kiyooka Ohe Arts Centre with her partner Harry Kiyooka, and alumni and current faculty member, Chris Cran will be opening his retrospective exhibition at the National Gallery of Canada in May just to scratch the surface,” remarked Doz.

ACAD’s alumni program is working to capture these diverse stories and expertise through the new Alumni Discovery Initiative. A multi-year program, (supported through the generosity of anonymous donors) is designed to discover the passions and motivations of alumni while creating connections for current students and developing opportunities for mentorship. Join us to at the event to hear how you can get involved. Register via eventbrite today!
