The Village Escapade

A beer and branding collaboration with Village Brewery, ACAD and National on 8th celebrates a second year.


 
Calgary, AB – Alberta College of Art + Design (ACAD), Village Brewery and National on 8th have partnered to provide ACAD communication design students a chance to test out their skills in a real-world environment and to inspire community partnerships.
 
ACAD students have been designing branding materials for limited edition Village beers based on judging and feedback from the team at Village over the last semester in a Visual Communications Brand Design 101 course.  The top four designs have been selected and the students collaborated with the Village brewers to create their cask of beer.
 
You can taste these creations and see the design and inspiration behind them at National on 8th on April 21, 4-7 p.m. in the tap room, Scotia Centre, 225 8th Ave SW. Try all four beers for five dollars a pint, with proceeds going to ACAD student scholarships. Judging by craft beer experts from the Calgary community starts at 5 p.m.
 
“ACAD’s School of Communication Design embraces working with community partners on advertising, branding, graphic design or illustrative projects," said Ian FitzGerald the course Instructor and coordinator of the partnership. "When students' talents, curriculum requirements, learning outcomes and bonafide marketing communications goals are aligned, everybody wins.”
 
"This was a really fun collaboration for Village with ACAD and National. This talented group of students came up with some incredible concepts and designs and really made them work within the Village brand," said Jim Button, one of the brewery's founders. "There were great learning opportunities for everyone involved and we are excited to tap the casks and see how their creations taste!"
