It’s #BellLetsTalk Day. Let’s continue supporting ourselves and each other today, and every day of the year by starting and continuing the conversations.
Six Ways You Can Help
- Recognizing signs of distress. Stress affects people differently and stressors beyond our control are especially difficult to cope with. A good resource is the AUArts Campus Wellness Strategy and Guide supporting Students in Distress: Attention, Action, and Assistance.
- Taking care of yourself. Taking care of yourself can help you cope with stress. Take breaks, take care of your body, connect with others, maintain a routine and focus on energies within your control. The AUArts Enhancing Mental Health Guide offers suggestions and recommendations.
- Taking care of others. People will notice impacts on their mental health and others. For tips on supporting others and helping those in distress: AUArts How to offer help.
- Connect to help. If you or someone you know is struggling, help is available. The following resources can help.
- End the stigma (language matters, educate yourself, be kind, listen, ask, talk about it). It's hard to ask for help. Ending the stigma around mental illness can help people seek the help they need and create positive change.
- Listen with empathy. Take the time to listen. Start a conversation. Continue the conversation. "I'm here for you" is a good place to start.
