Attention ACAD Creatives:

Get paid to make your work in front of a live audience!  In support of independent creatives, KIXS Boutique is continuing their partnership with ACAD until Summer 2018 and extending an open invitation to all current ACAD students and alumni to run a pop-up studio at one of their Calgary or Edmonton locations.

Open to creatives in all disciplines, participants are expected to make work on site for a five-hour period, at one of the KIXS locations, during peak retail times (typically Thursday-Saturday afternoons).  Selected participants will be compensated at $25/hour and are encouraged to interact with the audience during the session.  Previous participants have indicated that this has been an incredible professional development and networking opportunity in furthering their practice.

Photographers are also welcome to participate and will be provided with a model and clothing during the shoot.  Please note that a portable lighting set up and any specific staging requirements would need to be provided by the photographer and final image content as agreed on by the artist and KIXS will be shared with creative credit via social media channels.

In the summer of 2018, all ACAD students and alumni that have participated in the pop-up studios will be invited to vie to be a finalist for a grand finale event, with $5,000 in cash prizes available.  Full details surrounding this opportunity will be released in Spring 2018.

Interested in this pop-up studio opportunity?  Contact Sabrinna Visram via with a brief statement of interest, your creative experience to date, ACAD affiliation (current student or alumni) preference of storefront location, October 2017-June 2018 availability, social media handles (if available) and a small portfolio (5-10 images) of previous and current work.  Interested participants are asked to keep in mind that they will be making work for a family-friendly environment in a retail (non-traditional studio) space when considering their proposals.

ACAD thanks KIXS for their community work in supporting local creatives and entrepreneurs!
